I turn 30 next year.
This doesn’t scare me too much to be honest- but it is a great excuse to have an amazing party.
I spent my 25th and 28th birthday in the Florida Keys with my best friends. We had a few days in Orlando, before heading down to Key Largo for my birthday and we were in Key West for my best friends birthday. ( so a double party!!)
Having an October birthday is great for travel as you can avoid all the school holidays and get cheaper deals. It’s also quieter.
For our 30th we can’t avoid school holidays as one of our party works with children and it’s the only time she can get off. (And for my actual birthday I’ll be in Australia but that’s a whole new kettle of fish) so we are heading to Las Vegas and NYC in Easter!!!
We are just starting to think about really planning it- the dates are set, now we just need to think about booking.
We have wants and reality, like any holiday.
And some of us want to see Britney. Some-lol.
But either way- a big concert will happen. And Food.
All the food. We shall hunt down pancakes for breakfast and probably eat so much that we don’t even need lunch. That’s what we did in Florida. For dinner we are all about steak or fish so if anyone has been and has any recommendations – leave them in the comments below. Discovering new food is always one of my favourite things about holidays in new locations.
America is a big big place. When you look at a map some things seem really close together, but in reality- not so much. One of the girls has already been to Vegas and has driven to the Grand Canyon. So if we can, and we are up for it- it is definitely on the list.
Along with the zip line that goes through a shopping mall on the strip. Not so sure about the roller coasters on top of the sky scrapers though. Might give them a miss. I love roller coasters. But ON TOP of a sky scraper. Nah. I’ll pass. I imagine the others will too. But if they want too, I will be the camera lady.
My dad and I love the TV show Pawn Stars, about a pawn shop in Vegas. So I am totally going to pop in there and buy my dad a little something. And if they are filming, try and sneak in a shot or two!
And obviously there is gambling. Whilst some of us are luckier than others, it is still going be a laugh. I think I’ll stick to the machines, I have no idea when it comes to the table games. Too many rules. I’d rather trust the machine to tell me I’ve won.
And maybe I’ll win some extra funds for Australia. (Which is where I actually turn 30!)
Or spending money for NYC.
Which is where we are stopping by on the way home to see Bette Middler in Hello Dolly! When that was announced earlier this year we decided that we were definitely adding it on to the trip. Whilst we get great theatre in London, some things like this you HAVE to see on Broadway.
I got this blog idea when a company called Paperless Post got in touch asking about big birthdays and how I celebrate them. When you travel around special birthdays it can be harder for family and friends who aren’t travelling to be able to give you a card ( people still do this! I love sending and receiving snail mail. )
Companies like Paperless Post can make it fun to send well wishes no matter where you are in the world. They have really cute customisable designs for any occasion—from everyday letters and invites to cards for big birthdays. “ Paperless Post collaborates with leading fashion and lifestyle designers, including kate spade new york, Oscar de la Renta, Jonathan Adler, and John Derian. To date, Paperless Post users have sent over 85 million cards.”
I’m definitely going to use them soon, as I have some friends who live in far flung countries and it will be a cute surprise whether I use their paperless option or send a real card through them.
So there you go! Birthday plans.
2017 is going to be a crazy crazy year. I’m already saving the pennies, but I really need to get on it even more!!
Thanks go to Paperless Post for the inspiration too!
See you tomorrow.
