Finding The One

Everyone searches for the one.

I’ve been searching for the last few years now.

I thought I had found the one in Merlin. I met him stuck in a muddy field when I moved back to Norfolk in 2016. I fell in love instantly.

Born in 1987 like me, he was a little quirky and needed some love. But sadly it wasn’t meant to be. He was perfect for now, but not for the long term.

Grand Canyon South Rim Tour

As soon as we started talking about our trip to Las Vegas we all agreed there was no way we were not visiting the Grand Canyon. There were so many tour options out there, ranging through all sorts of prices, with helicopter rides, raft rides, MULE rides and bright pink hummers.

After much discussion and many a google, we went with the Platinum South Rim Tour of The Grand Canyon – booked through Papillon Tours but in the end the actual tour operator was Gray Line. Our tour came in at £140 but as you can see through the links above, it pays to shop about as the same tour can cost a lot less on different sites. (Especially if you were on a tight budget like I was)

Double Monday Look Back

Afternoon!

A two week look back this week – as I have no idea what I did last Monday, but blogging clearly wasn’t one of them :-/

Last weekend the ladies and I went on a flying visit to Hamburg to support our friend Nancy in her first marathon. We had kept this plan secret for months and aimed to surprise her at the airport as our flight landed before hers.

We failed. She somehow managed to slip past us at arrivals and got halfway to Hamburg city centre before we messaged her and she came back to get us!

Either way she was surprised and very happy that we were there. We looked after her and dropped her off at the start of the marathon before exploring a bit of Hamburg.

Sunday at the Stanfords Travel Writers Festival.

The Destinations Travel Show was held at Kensington Olympia from the 4th till the 7th of February. The vast hall contained over 550 travel brands for you to peruse at your hearts content. That’s if you weren’t distracted by the plethora of talks, performances and food.

The main reason I attended was to go to as many talks as possible at the Stanfords Travel Writers Festival. I am a travel procrastinator extraordinaire. I love reading about people’s adventures into the unknown. I dream about doing these things myself. At the moment I am working on getting my fitness up to a good level so that it’s one less thing to worry about should I ever venture out my door when I find a ‘thing’ I want to do. (more like decide which of many ‘things’ I will do.)

Where Are All The Female Explorers?

Like any person with a love of travel, I don’t get to travel even half as much as I wish I could. Reality. Bills. Being a grown up sucks.

I have ideas. Such ideas and plans I wish I could go and carry out, to walk in others footsteps and to create new footsteps for others to follow. But as a woman, the one thing that truly holds me back is safety. I’m not scared of the weather, of the food, or of roughing it for weeks. Even if money became no object tomorrow and I could up and go wherever I want, I would still have reservations.

Reservations that a man in the same position wouldn’t even have to think twice about. So what brought this on?

That Bug Called Wanderlust.

These last few weeks (pah – years) I have been suffering from a horrible problem. It’s been on my brain constantly and with it being fairly quiet at work, it’s all I’ve been thinking about.

I have a case of chronic wanderlust.

With this year’s holiday coming up, I am starting to think about 2016 and beyond. Because you always need holidays planned, I personally need something to look forward each year.

For 2016 I have been jumping between the idea of India and Japan, then I think about how much of Europe there is to see. Then there is the US and Canada.

I can’t make up my mind – I just want to go everywhere.

So why don’t I?
