Every year that I get a PR invite to the Norfolk and Norwich Festival I pinch myself. Getting invited to request tickets to see incredible productions because of this little old blog is such a lovely thing, so thank you NNF and Bread and Butter PR for these opportunities.
It has been a few years since I last sat in a danger seat at the Norfolk and Norwich Festival, but last nights performance of CORAZÓN was the best way to reintroduce myself to this phenomenon that is very specific to a spiegeltent- esq venue.
To refresh your brain, The Danger Seat is a seat in the front row, often next to the steps up to the stage. It’s the prime seat to be picked on, or maybe even end up with a lap full of performer. NOW obviously this has never happened, but it adds a heightened level of drama to an already edge of your seat production. In previous years I have ended up covered in ball-pit balls – so I returned to this seat in trepidation.
This is what the Norfolk and Norwich Festival had to say about the production.
“With nerves of steel, music from the soul and tons of Colombian spirit, Circolombia welcome you into their house, their home, their heart!
A brand new show. All the way from South America, created especially for the Adnams Spiegeltent!
In this world premiere, commissioned by Norfolk & Norwich Festival, Circolombia invites you to experience Corazón (Heart). A fun-fuelled circus concert, packed with breathless feats, gravity-defying performance and infectious music where you, the audience, are taken right into the beating Latin heart.
Colombia is the land of a thousand rhythms.
Vibrant, passionate and pulsating with energy.
The acclaimed Circolombia – graduates of Fundación Circo Para Todos, a circus school dedicated to working with underprivileged youth – transport you to the bustling heart of Colombia for a show that shares the nation’s wealth of culture, energy and diversity.”

This performance opens with haunting beautiful vocals that run throughout the show, with soulful songs and upbeat music that ties this production together.
We then transition smoothly into a sequence with two performers, one of who is flying above the audience. It was during this sequence I flinched so hard I spilt some of my cider…

There is alway a small bit of glee on their faces when thing got a bit hairy – but you know that they have it under control. The strength and agility in each of the very individual performers was amazing. As is the trust and companionship between the whole company. They put so much faith in each other and the small smiles and big grins they give each other during the show is infectious.
I know I had a big grin on my face a lot – amongst my terrified face that I often have during watching circus productions.
Now I think about it I am sure sitting in the front row makes this face very visible under the edge of the stage lights… oh well.

There are multiple exciting sequences in this production that lasts just over an hour, including umbrellas, dance and an inventive use of a tight rope, which later is turned into a slack line that made all of us in the audience cross our legs. I adored this show, it was such a fun, energetic performance, where I couldn’t tear my eyes off the stage.

This production is already sold out for its NNF run, but there is waitlist for returns and I highly recommend you get your name on it. CLICK HERE to visit the webpage for more information.
